First (proper) snows of winter
So finally Edinburgh got some snow. The west has been seeing the bulk of it this last week but as NOT predicted by the Met Office, the east coast finally got some snow last night. Lets be specific here though, it’s not snowed in for a week material, it’s just a covering but enough to excite the locals and spark reminders of last years feet of snow at this time.
I have to be honest, I went up onto Calton in the hope that the slopes might produce a few slips from ill prepared walkers or at least a snowman or 2, at least I found the latter.
Not the best snowman I’ve ever seen but a reasonable attempt, I do like the snow hands…
People were having some difficulties with the snow and icy slush on the slopes. Amuses me that the council shut Princes Street Gardens which is mainly flat last year in the snow but left the slopes of Calton open.
The views over the city from here are always something special but it’s nice to see the snow and today, thick fog over the Forth, gives a very different feel to the area.
As usual with early snow in Edinburgh, a thaw was starting to set in fast.
Wonder how long this guy will last if a thaw sets in? The snowman with the best view in Edinburgh?
Highlight of the day though was the guy with the big snowball who less than 20s later while chasing his mate with it was flat on his back rolling in a slushy puddle.
