The closes at night

It was hard to get people interest in these shots, the High Street closes are not particularly inviting at night and people don’t tend to do much walking along them in the dark. Not that I blame them, I’ve seen some unsavoury sights down some of these at night and tend to take the longer routes myself now. There’s a video on You Tube somewhere of a huge ned fight down this close at night, or at least there used to be, not the best advert for Edinburgh.

Advocate’s Close is one of the more famous ones, due to the fact you can see the Scott Monument right through it, it’s one of “those” Edinburgh pictures. This guy is probably wondering why, if this place is so famous, it always seems to resemble a building site a little further down.

Lets finish up with another of the famous Closes, Mary King’s Close, or as it’s titled here, the REAL Mary King’s Close. No idea where the imposter Mary King’s Close is mind you. This is where the bulk of Edinburgh’s ghosts are supposed to hang out and it’s meant to be extremely scary, all I can say is that anyone who thinks that’s scary hasn’t been in Wester Hailes Centre on giro day…

  1. interesting. i find these places alluring, myself. i think of all the novels and movies with scenes in places like these.
i really like the first shot the best, for the perspective, and all the contrast and texture … but more than that the feel of the image as a whole. i like them all.
