The Financial and Theatre District
Today we’ll head a little west of the city centre to the Lothian Road area. By day, the financial district of the city on one side of the road and by night the theatre district on the other with the Usher Hall and Traverse Theatre catering for the culturally minded.
It’s got a 3rd face though, by late night/morning, it’s more of a zoo where Stella’d up animals fight and shout incoherently at each other as the clubs and bars spill out.
By day though, this place is where the big financial business’s hang out, it’s corporate clones all the way, suited and booted and all nearly identical.
Cross the road from here and there’s one of Edinburgh stranger landmarks, the big telly. Quite what purpose it serves with the news on all the time I have no idea but it’s quite impressive.
Walk past the faceless All Bar One and you’re in a Crescent of high finance best escaped so head left to the bridge over the Western Approach Road that takes you to Rutland Square in the west end.
You’re firmly in the New Town now down here, the architecture changes and largely so do the people, pin stripe the order of the day.
I must admit, this is more an area I just pass through rather than have observed so look out for more here in future posts.
