Are you Shore it’s Leith?
A quick post from the Shore area of Leith. Leith is a strange part of Edinburgh these days, it has some of the roughest parts of the city, some of the worst boozers and yet it has an upmarket area like this, right down at the mouth of the Water of Leith as it enters the docks. This it could probably be argued isn’t REAL Leith but it’s a shining example of how areas can be regenerated.
This is the Victoria Swing Bridge, right at the mouth of the Water of Leith as it empties out into Leith Docks. There’s an open walkway along one side but the main bridge is shut as it’s apparently falling apart!
Pedestrian crossing of the Victoria Swing Bridge.
The river’s cleaner now than it’s been in years but since this is at the mouth, a fair bit of debris and the odd dead body turn up now and again.
One of the newer developments down here, of which there are plenty along with refurbished older buildings.
I’ll finish off with this shot, had I seen it as a photo I’d probably not have recognised it as Leith straight away, with the floating restaurants and buildings here now it could easily be Amsterdam or some other European city.
I’ll need to get back and explore Leith and the Shore more in a future post, interesting area indeed.
