Fine Dining in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, in recent years at least has become a real foodie place. With several Michelin starred restaurants opening and the numerous fine dining festivals on offer the Scottish palate has never been better catered for in the capital. However, for every one of these great places, there’s a hundred of these…

Lets kick off with a typical chippy. Fish and chips? Nah, way to expensive these days. Now, a fried pizza supper or a deep fried Mars Bar? That’s more like it. Yes, a lot of Scottish chippys will actually sell you a deep fried Mars Bar in batter. I’ve never had the pleasure and hope I never will.

And into the scheme’s we travel. This is the shops at Saughton Mains, near the infamous (now closed) Busy Bee pub. Shutters down for the day except the 2 fine dining outlets at the far end, where no doubt, the YMS eat (Young Mental Saughton in case you were wondering…)

And here they are, the Oludeniz chippy and the Treasure Cottage Chinese. Yummy. Believe it or not, this is the worst you’ll find by a long way.

Chinese is popular in Scotland, wander into the housing schemes on the outskirts and an oriental meal will never be far away.

To finish up, a classic Scottish meal, perfect for consumption anytime just don’t expect to live too long knocking these back on a regular basis. I give you… the chip roll covered in “broon” sauce.
