Greyfriars, the Meadows and Students…

One thing Edinburgh does well, it’s a graveyard. OK, I know Greyfriars is a wee bit touristy and it’s maybe against the ethos of this blog but to be fair I was in there hoping to find some professional alcoholics hanging about or even some evidence of them kipping on the graves but unlike every other time I’ve been here, it was not to be. It was busy though, it seems the dead is a big attraction for the living.

This gate is up around the back of the church but why is it locked? What’s in there? Who left the flowers? So many questions…

Photographing Bobby, would have been a crime against this blog, however, photographing someone photographing Bobby with a backdrop of the masses of roadworks and diversions is fine by me. Nothing is surer in Edinburgh that every single day, there will be roadworks and diversions and someone will photograph that wee dog.

Just up the road from Greyfriars is the Meadows, Edinburgh’s premier central green space. A hive of activity at any time, just a shame yet another Sainsbury’s Local and Starbucks have sprouted up on Middle Meadow Walk, am I the only one getting fed up with the corporate takeover of Edinburgh? What next, Sainburys on the Castle Esplanade?

Hang a left of Middle Meadow walk and you’re in student city. Swarms of them, and it’s no surprise that there’s also an abundance of environmentally friendly transport to be going on with too.

Edinburgh University owns most of this area with various old and new buildings, I don’t think I’d really appreciated just how many students are around here. Of course, it’s not hard to spot which ones are the students.

And to finish, the staple diet of Scotland being enjoyed by a man with hair like a microphone cover…

    • There’s always one spelling Nazi isn’t there? I’d have been appreciative if you hadn’t commented that as anon. If you’re going to pick fault in pubic at least have the decency to do it under a real identity. Must be wonderful to be that perfect as never to make a single spelling error.
